Clean water
For 18 years
For nearly two decades, Veolia and MMSD have kept Lake Michigan clean and the water safe for over 1.1 million people.
MMSD sets the standard. Veolia runs the system. It’s a partnership that works for our community.
Providing 18 years of cleaner water for the people, businesses, and communities along the lake and the rivers that feed it.
We take pride in protecting the lake and the rivers because we live here too.
MILWAUKEE VALUES
CLEAN WATER
Protecting Lake Michigan
MMSD's facilities have the capacity to treat up to 630 million gallons of water a day. Overflows that once averaged 50 to 60 per year now average two per year.
That's proof the system works even in the worst weather.
Rooted Locally, Not Remote
Veolia's cost discipline has saved Milwaukee ratepayers real money since 2008 while continuing to improve water quality, making it one of the most efficient water systems in the country.
That discipline is reinvested: in local jobs, local training, and local businesses.
Serving the Greater Milwaukee Area
Veolia and MMSD serve more than 1 million people across 29 communities through Jones Island, South Shore, and the Deep Tunnel system.
All of these sites work around the clock so every neighborhood along the lake and its rivers has water they can trust.
A Record You Can Count On
With 98.4% of the water entering Milwaukee's regional sewers captured and cleaned, it is no surprise that Veolia and MMSD have earned national recognition, like the Clean Water Alliance's Water Award, the Platinum Award from the National Association of Water Agencies, and the Distinguished Services Award from the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships.
